Biography
Producer and presenter best known for fronting Picture Page (a sort of early version of The One Show) between 1946 and 1951. Gilbert had been a production assistant on the programme before the war, and when the television service - and with it, Picture Page - was restored, she was promoted to editor. Finding nobody quite right for the role of host, she took that on as well, and consequently became one of early TV's biggest names.
She died in 1991, aged 84.
