== Biography ==

Comedian who started out as a radio producer before rising to fame in the sketch show ''Not the Nine o'Clock News'' and forming a successful partnership with co-star Mel Smith. He's also acted on stage and screen, and presented all manner of history programmes and travelogues.

He and Smith also founded the production company [[:Category:Talkback Productions|Talkback]] and continued to be involved with it until 2000.

He appeared in ''The Young Ones''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s spoof of [[University Challenge]] as a really-not-at-all-veiled imitation of [[Bamber Gascoigne]].
