Synopsis

Three salons compete to find the perfect dress for the bride.

One bride-to-be. Nine potential dresses. Which will the bride pick? And what do friends and family think?

That, in a nutshell, is All Hail the Veil. Each of three boutiques offers three dresses within or around the specified budget. The bridal party offers their opinions. There are fittings and tailoring, and the bride makes her final choice. Squint enough, and this could be a dating show, except the "date" is with a piece of white cloth.

Most of the entertainment and drama comes from the bridal party offering their opinions. "This looks lovely on you," says Mumzilla, aware that she's stumping up £5000 for the dress and hoping (just hoping!) that bride might leave the price tag on. "We look lovely," chirrup the bridesmaids, forgetting that they're not getting wed.

The three salespeople consultants represented expensive, cheap, and fashionable styles. We got to know them better than the brides. With nine fittings in 23 minutes, the women only got to talk in the broadest stereotypes. "I want to look like Kim Kardashian, all figure-hugging," that sort of thing.

There's a lot of this going on.

Viewers seemed to divide along gender lines. "Already my new guilty pleasure show", said Paige after eight minutes. "Channel 4 makes some great programmes, and then it makes this", wrote Adrian.

At heart, All Hail the Veil is a relationship programme, with a loose cover of game, and many layers of taffeta.
