Antiques expert who conducted his first auction at the age of 16 and went on to become a director of Sotheby's, and chairman first of the auction house's Manchester operation, and later of the Billingshurst and Olympia salerooms. From the early 1990s he was also a regular expert on the ''Antiques Roadshow'' and popped up with increasing frequency on other programmes too.

Biography

Antiques expert who conducted his first auction at the age of 16 and went on to become a director of Sotheby's, and chairman first of the auction house's Manchester operation, and later of the Billingshurst and Olympia salerooms. From the early 1990s he was also a regular expert on the Antiques Roadshow and popped up with increasing frequency on other programmes too.

He left Sotheby's in 2003 to take the reins of Bargain Hunt and set up his own fine art brokerage business.

Trivia

Both his father and grandfather were also auctioneers.

He has conducted numerous charity auctions in his time, including several held at the Prime Minister's residence, Chequers.
