The UK arm of the business started as the tiny independent Bazal Productions (named after its founder, Peter Bazalgette) in the 1980s. It was eventually bought out by Endemol and renamed as Endemol UK Productions.

Endemol merged with Shine Group on 1 January 2015 to form Endemol Shine Group .
