Biography
Nicholas Radbourn Hewer was born in Swindon in 1944, educated in Kildare, and founded a public relations business in 1966. One of its clients was Amstrad, through which Hewer came to know the company's chairman. When Alan Sugar agreed to host The Apprentice, he persuaded Hewer to act as one of his aides. Personable, and blessed with a dry wit, Hewer's withering put-downs gathered a following beyond the business community.
After guesting on panel shows including Would I Lie to You?, Hewer became the host of Countdown in 2012, taking over from Jeff Stelling. He left The Apprentice after the 2014 series, to be replaced by interviewer Claude Littner.
Off-screen, Hewer spends time in Northamptonshire and the south of France, and goes on road trips across outer Mongolia.
