Biography
Actor and presenter who was one of the country's most famous voices of the immediate postwar years. He joined the BBC as an announcer in 1935 and soon became a prolific presenter in both current affairs and light entertainment, as well as acting in both straight and comedy roles. His authoritative tones were also put to use as a narrator for British Movietone News.
He died in 1967, aged 64.
