He first came to prominence when he won Fifteen-to-One and has gone on to glory in numerous other contests, both broadcast and otherwise, including winning the World Quizzing Championships three years running (2004-6). When he first came to fame as a quizzer, he was working as a civil servant in the Department for Media, Culture and Sport, though he has since given that up.
