To Boldly Go Where No Quiz Has Gone Before
Synopsis
Quiz from BBC2's 30 Years of Star Trek theme night, back when a TV theme night actually went on all night and wasn't just a couple of loosely-connected repeats chucked out back-to-back.
That said, this particular item is principally notable for (1) being Jon Culshaw's first major on-camera TV exposure (he came on to read out dialogue in unrelated celebrity voices, a gag later used on Gaby's Talking Pictures) and (2) having a very silly title indeed.
Other rounds involved watching clips from the original series and The Next Generation and answering questions about them, an odd one out round and an observation round. The top two scorers faced a head-to-head finale in isolation booths, answering the same questions. The winner got tickets to the premiere of the Star Trek: First Contact movie and a joking invitation to come back and defend her title in another 30 years.
Champion
Beatrix Jones
Theme music
Theme from Star Trek: The Next Generation by Alexander Courage and Jerry Goldsmith.
Trivia
Reused the set from Monkhouse's Memory Masters. Any notion that the similarity was a coincidence disappeared when they brought out the very distinctive isolation booths for the final.
