Host

Tim Brooke-Taylor

Broadcast

Granada for ITV, 1985

Synopsis

Talent contest whereby 1,000 families around the country could use electronic keypads to vote for their favourite acts.

Best remembered for Stan Boardman fronting the "Electric Hook" sequence whereby would-be stand-up comedians had to entertain the audience for as long as possible until the computer-simulated vaudevillian hook inching across the screen eliminated them.

Key moments

Apparently John Sparkes (Pub Quiz), Harry Enfield and Steve "Thatcher" Nallon were all discovered on the show. Though Enfield's appearance (as half of "Dick and Dusty") was somewhat inauspicious - the duo came fourth out of four.
