Biography
Long-serving art critic for the London Evening Standard (since 1984). He is known to the wider public not so much for his outspoken views on modern art, as for the distinctive voice he uses to, uh, outspeak them. The phonetic alphabet has not yet been invented which can do justice to his extraordinary vowels.
Trivia
He appeared in adverts for Stella Artois Dry in the mid-1990s.
