Endemol is one of the largest TV production companies in the world. Founded by Dutch producers Joop van den Ende and Jon de Mol (hence the name), it is now owned by the Spanish telecoms giant Telefonica.

The UK arm of the business started as the tiny independent Bazal Productions (named after its founder, Peter Bazalgette) in the 1980s. It was eventually bought out by Endemol and renamed as Endemol UK.

Although the company has a reputation for brashy and sometimes trashy TV shows, it also makes a large amount of comparatively low-key programming.
