Biography

Greenwich-born ventriloquist who started entertaining at 14 with a magic and impressions act. With the emergence of television, Ray introduced his famous puppet 'Lord Charles', an aristocratic dummy, into his act which debuted on the BBC variety show The Good Old Days. He presented some of his shows with his longtime partner, Barbi, though they never married.

He died in 2010 at the age of 79.

Alan bore a strong physical resemblance to Bob Holness, but Holness revealed once on Blockbusters that they were not related. It wasn't much of a revelation, if we're being honest, but seemingly a number of people were interested back in the 80s, given that, according to Holness, quite a few had written to said programme to ask.
