Biography

Comedian who rose to fame as, in her own words, "one quarter of the double act Mel and Sue" with Mel Giedroyc, most notably the 1990s C4 daytime show Light Lunch. Prone to pop up on any radio comedy show, she hosted The 99p Challenge, was a regular on It's Been A Bad Week and The News Quiz, and made frequent appearances on Just a Minute before eventually becoming host. Her telly profile was raised considerably in 2008 with the Supersizers food history series alongside Giles Coren, followed by a winning performance on Maestro.

Subsequent TV appearances have included the documentary "A Band For Britain", in which she was helping to revive the previously dying Dinnington Colliery Band in South Yorkshire; Perkins' conducting skills came in useful once again on this series. She was also reunited with Coren for "Giles and Sue Live The Good Life", in which the duo attempted (albeit temporarily) to live a suburban self-sufficiency lifestyle in the manner of the BBC's hit 1970s comedy series "The Good Life".

2010 saw Mel and Sue reunited for The Great British Bake Off, which became the surprise hit of the year and the TV phenomenon of the next decade. Since leaving the show, she's become something of a latterday Michael Palin with a succession of travelogues exploring various parts of Southern Asia and the Americas.

Trivia

She was "outed" when former partner Rhona Cameron talked about their relationship on I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!.
