The contest followed the usual reality show rules: lots of people enter, they're given tests of skill and judgement, one leaves each week. ''Tattoo Artist'' had a clear visual aesthetic: a pinch of gothic, a dab of steampunk. It looked part of the counter-culture, and it was beautifully shot. But the competition format was nothing novel, and we felt the edit and narration told us what to think. | ''Tattoo Artist'' had a clear visual aesthetic: a pinch of gothic, a dab of steampunk.
