Biography
This much we know is true: Martin Kemp rose to fame as bassist in the 80s pop group Spandau Ballet. Following several years of gold discs and fans mobbing them through the barricades, the hits dried up - but to cut a long story short, acting provided a lifeline and Martin went on to star in the gangster film The Krays and later as Steve Owen in EastEnders, among other things.
In the 2010s he toured with the reformed Spandau Ballet and has also recorded a jazz album with his wife, fellow 80s pop star Shirlie (of Pepsi & Shirlie fame).
Trivia
He is also the father of presenter Roman Kemp. They are not related to Bridge of Lies host (and fellow EastEnders alumnus) Ross Kemp.
