Biography
Comedian who rose to fame in the sketch show Not the Nine o'Clock News and formed an enduring partnership with co-star Mel Smith. He's also acted on stage and screen, and presented all manner of history programmes and travelogues.
He and Smith also founded the production company Talkback and continued to be involved with it until 2000.
Trivia
He appeared in The Young Ones's spoof of University Challenge as a really-not-at-all-veiled imitation of Bamber Gascoigne.
