Biography

Former hammer-thrower who represented the UK at the Olympic Games in 1976 and 1980. After retiring from competition he opened a gym and worked as a volunteer in local radio before getting his big break following a chance meeting with David Coleman. He joined the BBC sports team as a trackside reporter in 1987 and since 1990 he's commentated on every major athletics meeting for the BBC as well as the Commonwealth Games, Winter Olympics and Paralympics.

He died in November 2024, aged 74.

Trivia

As well as throwing the hammer, he once held a world record for boomerang-throwing.
