Alex Lovell
Biography
Yorkshire lass who started out as a stage actress, before moving into children's TV as the voice of the Whybird in Playdays, and then as a continuity presenter for the Playhouse Disney channel alongside Dave Benson Phillips. She's also been a presenter on bid-up.tv and the late Auction World, but is best-known for student fave Brainteaser.
A mid-career switch to regional news saw her become a long-serving anchor of the BBC's Points West for eighteen years, followed by a defection to ITV's West Country newsroom in 2024.
Trivia
Lots of newsreaders have become game show hosts, but we can't think of many who've gone the other way - just her and Moira Stuart, we reckon.
In 2019, one 'Points West' viewer - a Somerset pensioner - was jailed for two-and-a-half years after carrying out a six-year stalking campaign against Lovell. Not only was it the lead story on that evening's programme, but Lovell herself contributed as an interviewee, rather than her usual role.
