World's Strongest Woman

Transworld International for BBC One, 6 May 2002 to 12 April 2004 (3 specials)

A female version of World's Strongest Man ran from 2001-3, and was shown on the BBC about six months later. The Observer snootily described it as "the most hilarious TV event since Margaret Thatcher left Downing Street for the final time".

At the time, the contest took place alongside World's Strongest Man. Since TWI pulled out, the contest (or some close equivalent) has continued to be held on-and-off as a separate event, but not televised. In 2016 Donna Moore became the first British woman to take the World title — at the time, British men hadn't had a World Champion since 1993.
