Biography

Despite originally training as an actor (at RADA, no less), Brian Matthew is better known as a long-serving DJ on BBC radio, initially working on the Light Programme where - in the pre-pirate radio days - his Saturday Club was one of the few outlets for pop music on British radio and played host to all the big names of the day. He would go on to present for Radio 1 and hosted Radio 2's Sounds of the Sixties (taking over from Keith Fordyce) from 1990 to 2017.

He died on 8 April 2017, six weeks after his last Sounds of the Sixties show.
