Synopsis
As part of a Channel 4 season about Japan, a bunch of UK and Japanese celebs took part in this one-off UK edition of a popular Japanese quiz show about international travel. The game involved watching various bits of film shot around the world and answering questions on the places featured. There was also a round which involved guessing where a studio guest is from and what their occupation or hobby is, in the manner of What's My Line?.
Participants: Michaela Strachan, Sinitta, Julian Clary, Dexter Fletcher, Cleo Rocos, Kenji Suzuki, Masumi Okada, Michiko Koshino, Yoshiko Kobata.
Trivia
The Japanese show, Naruhodo za Warudo (translated variously as "I Understand the World" or "Let's Go! The World"), ran on Fuji TV from 1981 to 1996 and holds a similar place in Japanese culture to our own Have I Got News for You, being the inspiration for a whole genre of copycat comedy panel shows.
A couple of subtitled editions of the original Japanese version had previously been aired on Channel 4 as part of another Japanese season in 1987. Also aired as part of the 1987 season was another game show, the self-explanatory Food Around the World, originally broadcast on Tokyo TV.
Theme music
Presumably the same as the original Japanese show, which was "Trammps Disco Theme" (a.k.a. "Zing Went the Strings of My Heart") by The Trammps.
