Biography
Comedy producer, writer and performer - a graduate of BBC Radio's Light Entertainment department, which also gave production credits to John Lloyd and Griff Rhys Jones.
After a stint on the satirical training ground of 'Week Ending', he achieved a blockbuster success for Radio 4 with The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and was at the helm of I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue when the first rounds of Mornington Crescent were played.
Under the guise of Mike Flex, he went behind the mic for the long-running Radio Active and in front of camera for its TV spin-off, KYTV - both co-created with long-time writing partner Angus Deayton.
Perkins went onto become a leading producer in TV comedy, working on Spitting Image, Harry Enfield's Television Programme and Father Ted among others.
Despite a successful six-year stint as head of comedy at BBC TV, unhappiness over growing bureaucracy saw him depart in 2001 to take on a hands-on production role at Tiger Aspect.
He died suddenly in August 2008, aged 55.
Trivia
He attended Harrow County School for Boys, alongside fellow pupils Clive Anderson and Michael Portillo.
