Biography

A native of Wickham in Essex, Oliver Stanley Murs had a childhood dream of being a football star; an injury prevented him from filling this ambition. He worked as a recruitment consultant, won £10 on Deal or No Deal, and took a year backpacking around Australia.

Olly rose to stardom through The X Factor. Though he lost the 2009 final to Joe McElderry, Murs was signed to Polydor Records, and had a string of hit albums through the early 2010s. He's remembered for songs such as "Troublemaker", "Please Don't Let Me Go", and "Dance with Me Tonight".

As part of a drastic restructure, Olly was appointed a host of The X Factor for its 2015 series. This series was widely considered a failure, and Olly's stilted hosting received more than its fair share of blame. He was more true to his excitable and playful self when he mentored on The Voice in 2018.
