Tim Brooke-Taylor
Biography
British comic actor who was rarely off the airwaves. In the 1960s he was at the forefront of British satire, mixing it with funny types like John Cleese. With Graeme Garden and Bill Oddie, The Goodies were an iconic 1970s comedy trio.
He continued to work with many of these colleagues on programmes such as the radio series I'm Sorry, I'll Read that Again, Hello Cheeky (with Barry Cryer and John Junkin), and the long-running I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue.
He died on 12 April 2020 at the age of 79.
Trivia
He starred in the BBC's late-80's comedy series You Must Be The Husband and had a one-off role as Victor Meldrew's neighbour Derek McVitie in One Foot In The Grave (after Angus Deayton had left the programme). Other acting appearances included a recurring role as a bookmaker in Heartbeat. In addition, he had previously made a (bizarrely uncredited) cameo appearance as a mad inventor in the 1971 film Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.
He was the voice of the narrator on the Nutty (later The Dandy and later still The Beano) and BBC cartoon superhero, Bananaman.
He served as Rector of the University of St Andrews from 1979 to 1982, following in the footsteps of previous rectors Alan Coren and Frank Muir.
His mother played lacrosse at an international level. Well, someone had to.
Created an OBE in the 2011 Queen's Birthday Honours, alongside fellow Goodie, ISIHAC star and Beat the Nation co-host Graeme Garden.
