Dodger and diver who, despite his wideboy image, was publicly educated. Came to fame through the Channel 4 film review programme Moviewatch, and most of his subsequent formats revolved around films, chat or chatting about films. In 2001, he signed a golden handcuffs deal with the BBC said to be worth £3m over two years. None of the projects in this period came to much.
