Granada began broadcasting on 3 May 1956. It originally served the North of England (including Yorkshire) on Mondays to Fridays, with ABC broadcasting at weekends. Following a reorganisation of the ITV franchises, Granada served the North West for the full week from 29 July 1968, the Yorkshire area passing to Yorkshire Television.
After a single ITV company was formed in 2002, "Granada" was the name chosen for programmes shown on other broadcasters, later taking the name ITV Studios.
